Batuhan is a first year student, undertaking his PhD in collaboration with the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. His research will focus on developing machine learning techniques and models for the discovery of new materials. He also has a keen interest in computer vision, especially its applications to materials science.

He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Manchester, where he earned an MEng in Materials Science and Engineering. He then went on to complete an MSc in Data Science, where his final project consisted of using unsupervised deep learning to estimate motion in image sequences.
