Miao Zhu

Miao is a first year PhD student working on developing a chemistry-aware tool which extracts data from text and figures in PDF documents using data mining techniques. The tool builds on the capabilities of existing software developed in the Molecular Engineering group, called ChemDataExtractor , which automatically processes custom-built chemical databases and then generates materials databases based on demand. By employing machine learning techniques, the tool can also continuously learn from input data such that its natural language processing capabilities improve with time, offering far greater processing efficiency than conventional data extraction tools and showing great potential in Big Data and computing. Miao is currently focusing on enhancing ChemDataExtractor to improve chemistry-aware text-mining functions.

Miao received his MSci degree in Advanced Materials Science and Engineering from Imperial College London. His final year research project focused on the stability study on hybrid perovskite solar cells.
