Padraic joined the Molecular Engineering group as part of his MPhil in Scientific Computing, following on from his Bachelor of Physics and Chemistry of Advanced Materials at Trinity College Dublin. He is interested in finding novel ways to harness and study the interaction of light and matter. In his final year project, he investigated the use of transparent 3D-printing materials in the production of low-cost waveguides.
After his undergraduate degree Padraic worked at a small software company where he gained experience working with data-driven applications. At the Molecular Engineering group he worked to combine his experience and interest in big data with his background in advanced materials. His project used machine learning and quantum simulations in a data-driven search for candidate functional groups toward the optimisation of dye-sensitised solar cells.
