Rian is joining the group this year as a PhD student. His project will also focus around using ChemDataExtractor and machine-learning techniques for mining of data from materials science papers. Specifically, the project aims to utilise the resulting database to improve material synthesis where specific properties are required.

Rian was an undergraduate at Durham University, where he completed an MPhys degree in Physics. His final year project looked for non-linear muon difluoride molecules in muon spectra of PTFE, using modelling of muon-fluorine dipole interations alongside data analysis in Python.
