Xiaogang (Larry) Liu

Xiaogang (Larry) was a PhD student studying the properties of organic dyes used in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSC). This work involves both experimental verification of dye compositions and their performances in DSSCs, and theoretical modeling of these structure-property relationships. The goal of this project is to discover new molecules and (molecular) structures for developing high efficiency dyes, and hence fabricate competent DSCs with good performance-to-price ratios. Experimental techniques used in this project include X-ray crystallography, spectroscopy and so on.

Xiaogang obtained his undergraduate degree with first class honours from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He completed his dual masters study with Singapore-MIT Alliance, a joint program between National University of Singapore and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His previous work mainly focuses on silicon based microelectronics and materials science/physics. Before starting his PhD study at Cambridge, he was also involved in a few optics projects as a research engineer at Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology Centre (SMART). He is now a SMART Scholar in Singapore.
