Zhang Lei spent his PhD developing dyes for dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC). He has broad interests in nanomaterials, energy materials, surface/interface science and DFT/TDDFT modelling techniques. He uses X-ray diffraction, UV/vis spectroscopy, NMR, FTIR, cyclic voltammetry and THz spectroscopy to study new organic dyes and organometallics, which can then be used in DSSC fabrication and characterization. Extensive computational work has been done to understand the structure-property relationships of the organic/inorganic system, using Gaussian and Castep.
Zhang Lei is from Nanjing, China. He obtained his MSc in composite materials from Imperial College London and bachelor degree in materials engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
